Phuket with Kids — 7-Day Family Itinerary
A week in Phuket designed for families — calm beaches, an elephant sanctuary, Phi Phi Islands, and FantaSea show.
Day 1 — Arrive & Kamala Beach
Kamala is the perfect family base — it's quieter than Patong, has a gently sloping sandy bottom that's safe for children, and is close to Phuket FantaSea. Spend the afternoon on the beach, let the kids get over the journey, and have an early dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants.
🎯 Things to do
Day 2 — Coral Island Half Day & FantaSea Evening
A quick and easy half-day boat trip to Ko Hae (Coral Island) — calm, clear water, a white sand beach, and banana boat rides the kids will talk about for weeks. Back by 2pm, then rest before the Phuket FantaSea show in the evening — the cultural spectacular with elephants and pyrotechnics is a genuine family highlight.
🎯 Things to do
Day 3 — Elephant Sanctuary & Big Buddha
Morning at an ethical elephant sanctuary — feeding, walking alongside, and watching the elephants bathe. No riding, just interaction at a respectful distance. This is almost always the children's favourite day of the whole trip. Afternoon at Big Buddha, a 45-metre marble statue on the highest hill in south Phuket with panoramic views. Chalong Temple is just below.
🎯 Things to do
Day 4 — Phi Phi Islands
The Phi Phi Islands are genuinely spectacular for all ages — the colours are vivid, the snorkeling is exciting (reef fish at every turn), and Monkey Beach delights children. Choose a tour that includes a life-vest snorkeling stop in calm, shallow water — most operators are well set up for families.
Day 5 — Kata Beach & Surf Lessons
Kata Beach is Phuket's best surf beach — and the surf schools here are excellent with children. The soft-top longboards mean even 8-year-olds are standing up within an hour. After lessons, lunch in the village, then an afternoon at the quieter Kata Noi Beach just around the headland.
🎯 Things to do
Day 6 — Bang Tao Lagoon & North Phuket
The north of Phuket is quieter and greener. Bang Tao has a calm lagoon complex backed by luxury resorts — the lagoon water is flat and safe for children. ATV quad-biking through the jungle nearby is a favourite with older kids.
🎯 Things to do
Day 7 — Nai Yang Beach & Departure
Nai Yang Beach is 10 minutes from the airport and a lovely last-morning spot — long, flat, and rarely busy. A final swim, a fresh fruit shake from a beach vendor, and you're done. International airport transfers from here are easy with no traffic stress.
