Overview
Nai Thon (also written Naithon) is one of Phuket’s best-kept secrets — a small, pristine bay that sees a fraction of the visitors of nearby beaches despite being genuinely beautiful. Framed by green headlands and backed by jungle, the beach has a handful of restaurants and the Pullman resort nearby, but remains uncrowded even in peak season.
The road down to Nai Thon winds through jungle hillside, which deters the casual visitor and keeps the atmosphere peaceful. What you find at the bottom is exceptional: clean white sand, transparent water, and a view undisrupted by parasols and jet skis.
Swimming & Snorkeling
The water at Nai Thon is clear and clean. Snorkeling is excellent around the rocky headlands at both ends — some of the best accessible snorkeling on Phuket’s coast. The sandy bottom slopes gently, making it safe for swimmers of most abilities in the high season.
Getting There
Nai Thon is approximately 25 minutes north of Patong, off Route 4018. It’s accessible by scooter or car; there’s no regular songthaew service. Grab taxis can reach it but may charge a waiting fee. Renting a scooter is the most practical option.
Best Time to Visit
November to April for calm, clear conditions. The bay gets some protection from its headlands so remains swimmable in moderate monsoon conditions, but rough days do occur.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Nai Thon Beach so quiet?
Its location on a winding side road between more famous beaches, combined with limited commercial development, keeps visitor numbers low even when the rest of Phuket is packed.
Is there accommodation at Nai Thon?
The Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach is the main resort. There are also some guesthouses and villas in the hills above the beach. Most visitors come as a day trip from other areas.
Can I snorkel at Nai Thon?
Yes — the headland rocks at both ends of the bay have good reef fish populations and visibility. Bring your own snorkeling gear; rental options are limited.
How do I get to Nai Thon from Patong?
About 25 minutes north by scooter or Grab, following the coastal road past Kamala and Surin, then turning off toward Nai Thon. Google Maps navigation is recommended.
