Overview

Bang Tao is Phuket’s second-longest beach at approximately 8km. It splits naturally into two very different worlds: the southern section is home to the prestigious Laguna Phuket — a complex of five luxury hotels connected by canals and a lagoon — while the northern section remains quiet, local, and largely undeveloped.

This contrast makes Bang Tao appealing to a wide range of travellers. Guests at the Laguna resorts enjoy manicured beachfront and five-star service; independent travellers can find solitude on the long, empty northern stretches.

The Beach

The sand is wide, soft, and golden. The sea is generally calm in the high season, making it suitable for swimming. The beach is long enough that you can walk 30 minutes in either direction without passing more than a handful of people — a rarity for Phuket’s west coast.

Laguna Phuket

The Laguna complex comprises Angsana, Banyan Tree, Cassia, Dusit Thani, and Outrigger resorts. Non-guests can access the beachfront restaurants and beach club areas. The complex has its own golf course, spa facilities, and free shuttle between properties.

Getting There

Bang Tao is about 25 minutes north of Patong by Grab or scooter. Songthaews run from Phuket Town to Bang Tao but infrequently — Grab is more reliable for this area.
