About Karon

Karon is the quiet middle child of Phuket’s beach towns — sandwiched between Patong (5 minutes north) and Kata (5 minutes south), it offers a similar beach quality to both without the crowds of either. It’s particularly popular with European package tourists and budget travellers who appreciate the long beach, affordable hotels, and lower prices than its neighbours.

The town itself is modest — a main road with restaurants, convenience stores, travel agents, and massage shops, but no major mall or nightlife district. What you get instead is peace, a wide beach you can walk for 30 minutes without passing more than a handful of people, and proximity to both Patong and Kata if you want more action.

Karon Viewpoint

The highlight of the Karon area isn’t the beach itself but the viewpoint above it — a hillside lookout offering a simultaneous panoramic view of Karon, Kata, and Kata Noi beaches. It’s one of Phuket’s most photographed spots and worth timing for sunset.

Getting There

Songthaews run between Karon and Phuket Town (30–40 THB, about 40 minutes). Patong and Kata are 5 minutes in either direction by Grab or scooter.
